Wanna Come Over?

Why wouldn't you want to spend time at my house what with all the action and all..??

Here's what's going down at my house on this random January Sunday............

One six-year-old trying to finish a round of antibiotics for an ear infection. (although I'm not sure I know anyone who ever really finishes all ten days of amoxicillin...)

One three-year-old who threw up four times last night and is only drinking liquids today "just in case"

One eight-year-old with her arm in a cast who can't dress or bathe herself, tie her shoes or open the toothpaste.

One husband awaiting next week's shoulder surgery who gasps in pain every time his arm moves the wrong way.

I'm in my thirties people.

Not for long but I'm hanging on to the years I have left.

And this is not the time for aches and pains and surgeries and such. Aren't we supposed to be in the prime of our lives? I need some medical intervention.

Or maybe a trip to the spa.....

TO FACEBOOK or NOT TO FACEBOOK ~ That is the question.

Okay...here it goes...

FACEBOOK Pros:

(1)Everyone's doing it (isn't that the same reason people experiment with marijuana!)
(2)You can re-connect with old friends and long distance family (ummm...many mixed feeling about this...could also be listed under the "Cons" section)
(3)Yeah, that's pretty much all I've got for the Pros. (Would love some comments from ya'll about your number 3 reason to join FACEBOOK ~ Oh, here's one...if I joined, then I could actually BE a member of the group "Jen Batson's not too old to FACEBOOK")COOL!

FACEBOOK Cons:

(1) Hello - can't find the time to do my laundry now...or read Beth Moore's BLOG everyday, or cook dinner...Who has time for this? Seriously?!?!
(2) You can re-connect with old friends and long distance family (see, I told you!)
(3) If you post pictures (which truly I don't really get how to do that...and I know, it's easy!), then EVERYONE will see how much you've changed - or haven't changed...which one's worse?

So, all you Facebookers or Anti-facebookers...what are your thoughts, your pros and your cons? Do I take a leap into this Cyber-World or just be content at the amazing job we 3 chix are doing on our fabulous blog? Isn't that enough to keep up with?!?!

Inauguration Day

Happy Inauguration Day! This is it! The day for HOPE! The day for CHANGE! The day that Birmingham spends $50,000 for a party and declares city schools closed. The day that history is made. The day that the media and hollywood are freaking out!

I've never seen such excitement. It's a party every minute, concerts 24/7, play by plays of every move the first family makes.. blah, blah!

All of this for a man. Just a man. Nothing special. Just a man.

What will the party be like when Jesus returns? I can't wait! This is one Inauguration Day I don't want to miss. Oh how I pray for the hope in this country to be in Christ. One day it will!

A Day In the Life

10:30 a.m. in parking lot of library....

S: Mommy will you hold my stuff?
Me: Why can't you hold it?
S: Because IT IS ABOUT TO BLOW AWAY TO HEAVEN ANY MINUTE!

12:00 p.m. at restaurant waiting for my friend to meet us. S is coloring and I am looking at my watch wondering why my friend is late, not realizing S is studying me..

S: She'll be here in a minute just chill out!

6:00 p.m. Lobby of funeral home as we attend visitation for a friend's relative who passed away....

E is doing recently learned cheerleading jumps as elderly people try to sign the guest book for the family.

S is sucking peppermints, spitting them out and wrapping them in the funeral directors' business cards. At least twelve.

I am trying to desperately keep five kids quiet(three mine and two J's) while people are trying to grieve. Meanwhile, the two "good" friends I'm waiting on are in a very animated conversation with "Uncle Dave" and "Aunt John" if you know what I'm saying. And I probably said the sentence "NO you cannot go see the dead body" two or fifteen times...and quite loudly on occasion.

8:00 p.m. while trying to get S to read a Bible story and say some sort of bedtime prayer....

Me: S what Bible story do you want to read?
S: Not Jesus only the Israelites
Me: OK, let's read about Moses
S: Not like Moses..ONLY the Israelites
Me: Well, let's just thank God for our day.
S: Thank you for Mistah Andy (her Sunday School teacher), my sisters and the cat.

We have a dog.

I'm going to bed.

Happy New Year!

So I guess it's time to update the blog. I am slowly emerging from my Christmas fog and am trying to get back into some semblance of a routine. If you hung out with us in the past two weeks, you might have heard some of the following conversations.........

-E gets two dollar bills from someone for Christmas. P is trying to tell her that the money she has equals two dollars but E will not listen. Discussion escalates and becomes full-blown argument. Finally, in a last-resort frustration P says "MOM WILL YOU PLEASE TELL E THAT SHE ONLY HAS TWO DOLLARS AND NOT TWENTY DOLLARS??" So I say "E, how much paper money do you have?" She says "I have two paper monies." So I say "E, then you have TWO dollars." E's response? "No, Mom! I counted them by tens!"

- P wanted to know why her ipod that Santa brought says Made in China??!!

-S announced to an entire restaurant full of people that "I TOOTED!!"

-P and E were trying to get S to do something she did not want to do and they were bribing her by telling her she could be the princess. They went on and on about how she could be the beautiful princess and wear fancy clothes and live in a castle, etc. etc. princess this, princess that. S considered their offer for a minute and I thought she was going to bite. But then she took her two fingers she was sucking out of her mouth and announced in all of her three-year-old wisdom "No..I want to be the Queen."

It's a laugh a minute. I should sell tickets.

So Happy New Year everybody! A friend sent me the following questions from www.reviveourhearts.com. They are great for us to ask ourselves as we enter into a new year. So.....enjoy this new year and the new beginnings that go with it. May God richly bless you as you strive to glorify Him in 2009!

"The beginning of a new year is an ideal time to stop, look up, and get our bearings. To that end, here are some questions to ask prayerfully in the presence of God.
1. What’s one thing you could do this year to increase your enjoyment of God?
2. What’s the most humanly impossible thing you will ask God to do this year?
3. What’s the single most important thing you could do to improve the quality of your
family life this year?
4. In which spiritual discipline do you most want to make progress this year, and what will you do about it?
5. What is the single biggest time-waster in your life, and what will you do about it this year?
6. What is the most helpful new way you could strengthen your church?
7. For whose salvation will you pray most fervently this year?
8. What’s the most important way you will, by God’s grace, try to make this year
different from last year?
9. What one thing could you do to improve your prayer life this year?
10. What single thing that you plan to do this year will matter most in ten years? In
eternity?"
